This post is a follow-up to my last post about how to set up a new Unifi-Controller with docker and attach it to your network.

Prerequisites:

  1. Old Controller up and running. Vers. 7.2.94
  2. New Controller up and running with new IP. Vers. 7.2.94
  3. Firewall opened ports

Step 1: Backup old Controller

  1. Log into your old Controller Gui
  2. Go to Settings->System
  3. Scroll to Backup and download your backup of choice. In my case, I don't really need the statistics so I only downloaded the settings.

Once downloaded go to the new Controller...

Step 2: Import Backup

Since we do have a fresh install you can restore your controller from a backup.

  1. Go to your new Controller GUI
  2. Restore from backup
  3. If you've set up your new controller already, go to Settings->System and there you can restore from backup too

Once you've imported your backup we can...

Step 3: Migrate Site

This is where the fun begins:

  1. Go to your old controller
  2. Settings -> System
  3. Site Management -> Export Site
  4. A popup will show up about downloading the Site Export file, since we imported the whole backup we don't need that.
  5. Click next until you get to this popup and put in your new controller IP and migrate devices

After that, you will get promted this note.

After all the devices show up in your new controller, you can push the button "Forget Devices" to permanently move to the new controller.

That's it, you are done. Good job!
